How to Select an Asset

Anything inside of Cascade is called an "asset." Folders are assets. Pages are assets. Files are assets, etc. Selecting them is as easy as clicking on them, with one exception which will be covered first.

If you have already completed Cascade training and you have a live asset with which to work, please follow along using your real asset. If you are using this guide for practice, please always use the _playground site. Yes, it starts with an underscore. It is a test site specifically meant for practicing.

Follow these steps to learn how to select assets in Cascade.

To edit an asset, you must select it first. Unlike all other assets, the default behavior when a folder is clicked is to expand or collapse. In order to select a folder, hover over the folder until the arrow to the right appears. Then, move the cursor and click the arrow.

If you prefer, you can also select a folder by right-clicking it, then selecting View from the shortcut menu that appears. In the example, the blue arrow denotes right-clicking.

To select any other type of asset, click the asset. Here, the homepage of the site, also known as the index page, is being selected by clicking it.

You can always tell which asset is selected because the type of asset selected, the name of the asset, and its location will be displayed in the top left of the workspace.

In this example, the top left of the Workspace displays the selected asset's information. It is a page asset with the title DEV Website Redesign. The "breadcrumbs" underneath show that it is named index, and is directly in the _playground folder.
