How to Locate an Asset in Cascade

Often, someone will ask you to edit a webpage, and you'll need to find where in Cascade the asset for that page is in order to edit it. This lesson will cover how to find the "editable page asset" in Cascade starting from a live web page.

If you have already completed Cascade training and you have a live asset with which to work, please follow along using your real asset. If you are using this guide for practice, please always use the _playground site. Yes, it starts with an underscore. It is a test site specifically meant for practicing.

Follow these steps to learn how to edit a page in Cascade from the live version of that page.

Step 1

Start from a Live Web Page

The process requires that you have a live web page to begin. The USD homepage sandiego.edu is the example used in this lesson.

Step 2

Scroll to the Bottom of the Page

Scroll all the way to the bottom of the page. You can also use the “End” key on your keyboard in most browsers.

Step 3

Hidden Edit Link

Hover over the area of the page just below the Facebook icon link, and just above the copyright information. Once you do, the link will appear. It’s normally hidden to make sure hackers and bots do not spam it. Click the Edit page in Cascade button.

Step 4

Log in to Cascade

If you are not already logged into Cascade, you will first be taken to the login page. Go ahead and log in. If you do not have a login, this will not work for you. Also, if you do not have access to the exact page you are trying to edit, it will not work for you.

Step 5

Cascade Page Asset

The page asset which corresponds to the live version you clicked will now be displayed. Notice in the accompanying screenshot that the site is selected, the folder that the page asset is within is expanded (just the main site folder in this example), and the page asset itself is selected (the index page in this example, because it is the “landing” page for the whole site). The editor will also already be opened if your account has access to edit the page. If your account does not, the editor will not display, and there will not be an Edit button.
