How to Create an Internal Link Using the Text Module

When linking, you must first ask yourself, "Am I linking to a document, image, or page that is INSIDE Cascade?" If the answer to this is, "Yes," then you need to use an Internal Link. If the answer is, "No," or you are using Cascade for the Email Builder system, then you must use an External Link. Most links are internal, but if you are linking to google.com or something, then it must be external. This lesson uses an internal link. The next lesson will use an external link.

If you have already completed Cascade training and you have a live asset with which to work, please follow along using your real asset. If you are using this guide for practice, please always use the _playground site. Yes, it starts with an underscore. It is a test site specifically meant for practicing.

Find any page in Cascade you can edit. You can use the _playground site if you do not have a current page to edit. If you already had a draft saved, click the Edit button, then click the "resume editing" link to continue with your last changes. If starting a new edit, click the Edit button.

This example uses the document uploaded during the Uploading Documents video lesson. If you have a document that you would rather use, then link to that document instead. Since we uploaded it into Cascade, we must use an Internal Link. With the Internal checkbox checked, click the Choose, File, Page, or Link button. The Internal Asset Navigator (or "IAN") will display.

View the lesson on the Internal Asset Navigator (or "IAN") if you need assistance here. Otherwise, make sure you are on the Recent tab, then click the selection circle for the ap-style.pdf uploaded in the Uploading Documents video lesson, or use whichever document you are currently trying to link to. Make sure it is the correct asset, then click the Choose button.

In this example, we linked to a PDF document, therefore click the Target dropdown and select New Window. This will open the document in a new browser tab for users. Finally, Click the OK button to convert the text you had highlighted into your new internal link.

If we had linked to a different page in Cascade rather than to a document we had uploaded, we would have left the Target as None. That is basic good internet etiquette.
